The law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., is pleased to announce that David L. Adelson, a Member of the firm’s Healthcare Practice Group, has become counsel to the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The agreement has a two-year term, during which the firm will be responsible for the day-to-day legal representation of the society itself, as well as handling all member questions and inquiries. The firm’s wide array of legal specialties will enable it to handle not only healthcare law issues, but other legal issues as needed. Adelson will also attend society functions, write articles, provide lectures, and generally support the societies and their members in their endeavors.
Adelson has over 30 years of litigation and healthcare law experience and represents a wide array of healthcare professionals and medical practices. His practice includes a broad range of health law litigation and administrative legal matters in New York and New Jersey with concentrations in the fields of professional discipline, hearings and appeals related to professional misconduct, private and public insurance audits, fraud and abuse, audit refund requests (private, Medicaid and Medicare), HIPAA, employment matters, and IPRO inquiries.
Adelson has successfully defended physicians in investigations before medical boards including OPMC, SBME, and OPD, as well as in private health insurance billing audits, civil Medicare/Medicaid audit/fraud claims, physician privileges, insurance fraud and abuse, RAC audits, OIG matters and MACRA. He has litigated numerous healthcare matters and defended sizable audits against some of the largest national healthcare insurance providers.
Adelson has lectured at numerous hospitals and before healthcare-related legal and medical organizations on health law issues including over-prescribing of medications, inappropriate conduct of practitioners, general licensure, healthcare-related cyber security issues, fraud and abuse, medical records, confidentiality of protected health information, employment contract challenges, and administrative law proceedings. He is a member of the Health and Hospital Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Adelson earned his B.A. in Rhetoric and Communication from SUNY Albany in 1984, his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1987, and his Master’s Degree in Homeland Security from Long Island University in 2011.
